NCDMB Launches 2025/2026 Tech Challenge To Reward Nigerian Innovators

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has officially opened the Nigerian Content Research, Innovation and Technology Challenge 2025/2026. The competition is designed to identify and support homegrown technologies capable of solving critical operational gaps in the oil and gas sector and its linkage industries.

Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, General Manager of Corporate Communications, announced the initiative in Yenagoa, inviting individual researchers, academia, and industry suppliers to submit their innovations for evaluation. The program aims to move beyond simple research, focusing on commercializing ideas that strengthen Nigeria’s local content capacity.

The NCDMB has structured a multi-stage rewards system to ensure participants receive both financial support and professional guidance. The top five winners will be awarded prizes in the form of cash, mentorship opportunities, and media coverage, while the top 10 participants will be admitted into the Technology Innovation and Incubation Centre (TIIC) at the Nigerian Content Tower in Yenagoa for further development.

Proposals are required to focus on specific priority industry challenges across several thematic areas. For geological and geophysical studies, proposals must focus on exploration, big data, and real-time logging data processing. Innovations in local material substitution should concentrate on sustainable materials for environmental remediation and cryogenic technology for LNG and refinery applications.

In the area of technology development, the NCDMB is seeking innovations in digitalization, the application of the Internet of Things to exploration and production, and condensate refining technology. Health, safety, and environmental proposals are expected to deal with carbon capture, depollution, and produced water management systems.

Engineering-focused entries should address enhanced oil recovery, refinery unit efficiency, and drilling technology. For renewable energy, the board is looking for solutions in solar and wind technologies as well as energy storage systems such as battery and hydrogen storage.

The competition will follow a rigorous selection process. At the first stage, the top 30 proposals will be selected and assigned mentors. This will be reduced to 10 at the second stage, and finally to five on the final day where winners will be determined. The NCDMB noted that innovators will eventually present their business pitches to corporate venture capitalists to help these emerging businesses grow and expand their market reach.
