The Methodist Church Nigeria enthroned Right Reverend Nkechi Nwosu as the nation’s first female bishop on Sunday.
The Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Reverend Joseph Nnonah, formally enthroned Right Reverend Nkechi Nwosu as Bishop of Jos at the Christ Methodist Cathedral Church in Jos, North Central Nigeria.
The church service was to formally implement the decision of the Methodist Church Nigeria’s biennial Conference, which was held in 2022 and at which Nwosu was elected Bishop of Jos.
Members of the Diocese of Jos gathered to witness the enthronement service, during which the Archbishop of Kaduna Archdiocese formally proclaimed Bishop Nwosu to oversee the Diocese of Jos.
Nowsu stated in her remarks that God has made all humans equal. She urged all Nigerians to seek the face of God at all times, especially as the general elections begin on February 25, 2023.
“We must all go out there and agree with God, listen to the spirit of God and do what God said we should do,” the new bishop stated.
“Do that so that God will use us and anybody he will put on that seat to restore Nigeria to a place of pride in Africa, and the world.”
The Enthronement Act was administered to the bishop as directed by the conference and in response to the will and consent of the Diocese of Jos; the bishop then officially began spiritual activities as the Bishop of Jos diocese, which she regards as a privilege in the propagation of the gospel without prejudice.
The election of Nwosu as the first female bishop of the Methodist Church of Nigeria is without a doubt a clarion call to Christendom that spreading the gospel is a task that transcends gender issues.
