South African singer Tyla emerged victorious at the 2026 Grammy Awards, winning the Best African Music Performance category ahead of Nigerian music heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr.

Tyla secured the award with her track Push 2 Start, surpassing a competitive shortlist that included Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, as well as Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.

The category, introduced to elevate African music on the global stage, once again showcased the continent’s growing influence in the international music industry. Nigerian artistes dominated the nominations, with Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr all making the final lineup.

Tyla’s latest win marks her second Grammy victory in the category since its launch in 2024. She previously made history as the inaugural recipient with her global hit Water, cementing her status as one of Africa’s most prominent crossover acts.
