Main story
Hajiya Nabila Nura Miko has officially assumed office as the Chairperson of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), PTML Chapter, pledging a renewed focus on welfare enhancement, empowerment, and community development for members.
The brief handover ceremony was held on Thursday at the PTML Command in Lagos, where the new chairperson expressed appreciation for the opportunity to lead the association, describing her emergence as a responsibility she accepts with humility and commitment.
Miko said her administration would build on the achievements of her predecessor while aligning with the broader agenda of the national leadership of COWA.
“I give all glory to Almighty God for the opportunity to stand before you today as the Chairperson of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association, PTML Chapter. It is with deep humility and a strong sense of responsibility that I accept this mantle of leadership,” she said.
She also commended the National President of COWA, Mrs. Kikielomo Adeniyi, for her leadership and guidance, noting that her stewardship has continued to inspire chapters across the country.
The issues
Miko acknowledged existing programmes already implemented by the PTML Chapter, including health awareness campaigns, empowerment workshops, environmental sensitisation initiatives, and community outreach activities.
She noted that sustaining and expanding these initiatives remains critical to strengthening the association’s impact on families of Customs officers and the wider community.
Key areas of focus under her leadership include welfare support systems for members, skills acquisition programmes, financial empowerment initiatives, and enhanced community service delivery in health, education, and environmental awareness.
What’s being said
The outgoing leadership was praised for laying a strong foundation through impactful programmes such as International Women’s Day celebrations, “Healthy Wife, Wealthy Life” workshops, breast cancer awareness campaigns, and school adoption initiatives under environmental programmes.
In his remarks, the Customs Area Controller of PTML Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, described the transition as a symbol of continuity and service, highlighting the crucial role of officers’ wives in supporting operational efficiency.
“While we officers are engaged in the discharge of our statutory duties of revenue collection, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling, you ensure that our homes remain stable, peaceful and productive,” he said.
He further assured that the Command would continue to support COWA initiatives within available capacity, including logistics, venue provision, and moral backing.
What’s next
The new COWA PTML leadership is expected to roll out expanded welfare and empowerment programmes targeting officers’ families, with emphasis on skills development and community outreach.
The association is also likely to deepen collaboration with the PTML Command and national COWA leadership to sustain ongoing projects and introduce new interventions in health and education.
Bottom line
Hajiya Nabila Miko’s emergence as COWA PTML Chairperson signals a renewed push for welfare-driven leadership, with commitments to empowerment, continuity of social impact programmes, and stronger institutional support for Customs officers’ families in Lagos.
