NNPC Loses N51billion in 1,447 Pipeline Vandalism Cases

The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC,recorded 1,447 cases of pipeline vandalism between January and May this year, resulting in the loss of over N51 billion.
The Group Managing Director of the state-run oil firm, Mr. Maikanti Baru, who made this known on Wednesday, August 24,
said the incessant destruction of pipelines has led to loss of 109 million litres of petroleum products and 560,000 barrels of crude oil that should have gone to the refineries.

Baru who lamented the rising spate of pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta region in 2015 alone, added that government lost over N51.28 billion through deliberate pipeline bursts by vandals.

He made the disclosure during a courtesy visit to the Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu Gana, in Abuja.
