Speed Up Action On Looters’ Bill – APC Chieftain

Succeeding the passage of the kidnappers’ bill by the National Assembly, Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ibrahim Saka Ominiwe while speaking with the press on Sunday in Ibadan, has admonished the lawmakers to speed up action on the Public Fund Looters’ Bill.

According to him, the kidnappers bill was hurriedly passed because kidnappers are after rich people in the society and that’s why he said the same should be applied to the looters’ bill is because looters have been stealing silently and getting away with it.

“President Muhammadu Buhari should not assent to the kidnappers’ bill until the looters bill is passed,” he said.

Speaking on the Fulani herdsmen clashes, he noted that President Buhari had issued a directive that they should be dealt with decisively, if found causing trouble in the country.

However, he said the issue of the Fulani herdsmen must be given a more probing look, saying, “I hope the previous government’s supporters are not hidden or sponsoring people disguising as herdsmen to cause trouble among different ethnic groups as a way of distracting people’s attention from the real issues on the ground.

“This must be properly investigated by security operatives. We must be strategic in our ways of doing things,” he added.

On the 2016 budget, the APC chieftain reiterated that the primary function of the lawmakers was to make laws and check the excesses of the executive arm of the government on overspending above the budget.

He said that the lawmakers did not have constitutional power to initiate projects, they could only lobby the executive for projects that are of national importance and beneficial to the people.

“This is a new order where things must be done the way it ought to be done and not the old order of business as usual.

“The president is prepared to build a new Nigeria and needs our support,” he added.
