Why Tinubu Delegated Some Questions At Chatham House - Dele Alake

Dele Alake, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council’s director of strategic communication, explained why Bola Tinubu delegated questions while speaking at the Chatham House.

Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, spoke at Chatham House in the United Kingdom on Monday.

Tinubu spoke at Chatham House about his action plan for Nigeria and addressed questions about his age and refusal to attend debate.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai; former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; APC national women’s leader, Dr Betta Edu; and former Commissioner for Finance in Lagos, Wale Edun, among others, answered questions on Tinubu’s behalf.

Tinubu’s action, on the other hand, has elicited reactions on social media, with some Nigerians questioning his decision not to answer all of the questions himself.

Alake defended Tinubu’s actions, stating that delegating questions to team members is “one of Tinubu’s innovations.”

“This is one of the innovations of asiwaju Tinubu. Don’t forget that one of his main solid strengths has been identifying talents,” Alake said.

“Anybody who has his head properly screwed on his head would know that Asiwaju is the primus inter pares in team building; that is what he sought to display.

“Everybody acknowledges his talents in showcasing professional and technocratic experts in various fields. Those who are saying what you have just said are ignorant of the nuances and dynamics of leadership. Leadership is not a one-man show.

“Successful leadership is one based on a team that is professional and highly skilled. Asiwaju has been noted to be an advocate of that and that is what he displayed.

“Apart from delegating, he also answered questions personally and directly. He wanted to show the calibre of his team and that is what he equally did at the Eko Hotel town hall meeting.

“That style is being copied by some of his opponents but they can’t get the traction because they don’t have the solid team like he has.”

Delegated responses

El-Rufai responded to security questions by saying that banditry, terrorism, separatism, and oil theft necessitate a new approach that includes increasing the number of security operatives.

“The numbers must change and the Bola Tinubu administration already has a blueprint which is embedded in our action plan to address this. We will scale up the numbers of the armed forces. We’ll ramp up not only the numbers but the training and the equipment,” the Kaduna governor said.

Alake, on his part, answered question on how Tinubu plans to lift Nigerians out of poverty if elected. “The key to his policy for increasing economic growth is to enable the private sector to make the investment that will increase productivity, grow the economy, create the jobs, and reduce poverty,” he said.

Also, Gbajabiamila responded to a question on the strategies of Tinubu on defence, the APC national women’s leader answered a question on healthcare delivery, amongst others.
