Senate Signs Railway Bill

The Senate has passed the Nigeria Railway Corporation Act, 1955 Repeal and Re- enactment Bill, 2016 .

The bill, which passed third reading clause by clause consideration, was sponsored by Senator Olugbenga Ashafa (APC Lagos East)

While speaking, Senate Committee on Land Transport, Senator Olugbenga Ashafa, said the bill which contained 212 clauses were repealed and re enacted.

Ashafa said that the bill has separated the regulator from the operators, adding that with the passing of the bill, Nigerians should expect a radical change in the sector.

“A whole lot of the clauses have been repealed and re- enacted. We looked at the bill, clause by clause, 212 clauses that were repealed and re-enacted. Nigerians should expect a radical change,” he said.

The committee chairman equally hinted that another bill on Nigerian Transport Commission (NTC) has been proposed, noting that a public hearing would be held soon.
