Police to arraign alleged fake presidential agency DG over forgery charges

By Boluwatife Oshadiya | July 13, 2026

Key Points

  • Nigeria Police will arraign Adeniyi Adeyemi over alleged forgery, impersonation and operating a fictitious presidential agency
  • President Bola Tinubu has directed the ICPC to investigate the alleged agency and submit its findings within 30 days
  • Prosecutors have listed Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and several government officials among key witnesses

Main Story

The Nigeria Police Force is expected to arraign Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday over allegations of forgery, impersonation and related offences.

Adeyemi and two co-defendants are facing an eight-count charge in suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, filed by police prosecutor Wisdom Madaki on November 27, 2025. The case was initially scheduled for hearing on June 16 but was adjourned after Adeyemi was reported to be ill.

According to court documents, prosecutors intend to call several high-profile witnesses, including the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, whose petition reportedly triggered the police investigation. Other witnesses include officials from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), investigators, and individuals allegedly recruited to work under the purported agency.

The prosecution also plans to tender documentary evidence, including an alleged fake presidential appointment letter dated March 8, 2024, correspondence seeking official recognition from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, documents relating to accounts allegedly opened with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and applications seeking self-accounting status from the Accountant-General.

Investigators alleged that Adeyemi operated the purported agency from the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase III, Abuja, despite the organisation not being legally established by the Federal Government.

The case has attracted wider attention after President Bola Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the activities of the alleged agency and submit its report within 30 days.

What’s Being Said

“The prosecution shall at the trial call any other related witness or witnesses to prove its case,” the Nigeria Police stated in its court filing.

The Presidency has also directed the ICPC to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the activities of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, with findings expected within 30 days.

What’s Next

  • The Federal High Court is expected to take the defendants’ pleas during Tuesday’s proceedings.
  • The ICPC is expected to conclude its presidentially mandated investigation within 30 days.
  • Trial proceedings will commence after the court determines the defendants’ pleas and admissibility of evidence.

The Bottom Line: The case highlights growing concerns over the impersonation of government institutions and alleged abuse of official identities. Its outcome could strengthen accountability measures around the creation and operation of agencies claiming federal authority.
