NNPC Names Ndu Ughamadu As Spokesman

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has effected a major shake-up aimed at repositioning the Corporation,the Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru announced in a podcast to the staff.

Over 100 staff were either promoted or deployed in the far reaching exercise.

The Corporate Secretariat and Legal Division was split into Board Matters and Legal Division.

Three Divisions, Government and Labour, Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Affairs were merged into Group Public Affairs now headed by a Group General Manager, Ndu Ughamadu.

Ughamadu, a lawyer, economist, journalist and public relations practitioner  was Editor of Daily Times and Business Times.

He is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Fellow Nigerian Guild of Editors, Fellow, Chartered lnstitute of Secretaries and holder of National honour of MFR.

Ughamadu who is being reappointed,was Deputy National President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.

Ughamadu was NNPC’s group general manager, Government and Labour Relations before the new appointment. He once served as spokesperson of NNPC when Dr Gaius Obaseki was the group managing director.

Born on September 24, 1955 in Maiduguri, Borno, Nigeria, Ughamadu is a 1984 graduate of University of Lagos with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.

An economist-cum-journalist, he is certified in capital market reporting. He was honoured by Financial Correspondent Association of Nigeria for Qualitative contribution to the development of financial journalism in Nigeria in 1990.

He is a member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Nigerian Guild of Editors, Nigerian Economic Society, and Chartered Institute of Bankers.

His journalism career includes an economy analyst at Management Group International, Lagos, 1982; economy reporter, News Agency of Nigeria, 1982-1993; Staff writer Business Times, 1983-1986; Group energy correspondent Daily Times, 1986-1988; Business Editor, 1988 -1990. Consultant, African Trade Promotions Organisation, Tangier, Morocco, 1991; advisor, Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Lagos, since 1992.

He was the anchor man for two finance/business programs: The Sunday Show and Money Line at the Nigerian Television Authority.

In what can be regarded as his first official assignment, Ughamadu yesterday announced that NNPC and Niger Dock Plc had agreed to work together in the areas of engineering, procurement and construction to boost the nation’s economy.

The relationship is part of concerted efforts to grow local content in the oil and gas industry.
