LASG Closes Chrisland Over Student’s Death

Lagos Govt Charges Chrisland School Staff, Vendor Over Death Of Student

The Lagos government (LASG) has ordered the closure of a Chrisland School following a student’s death.

Whitney Adeniran, a student at Chrisland’s Opebi Ikeja branch, died on February 9, 2023 during a sporting event.

As her family continued to question the school, Blessing, the deceased’s mother, accused Chrisland of negligence.

She claimed that the school made no provision for emergency response at the event and thus did not provide first aid.

Despite the doctor’s mention of a cardiac arrest, the girl’s mother stated that she had no prior heart condition.

However, Lagos Education Commissioner Folasade Adefisayo stated that the school is now closed pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.

“We also note the impact of this unfortunate event on family, friends, and acquaintance of Whitney and call for calm as we assure that no effort will be spared in investigating the incident”, the commissioner stated.

Earlier, in response to public outrage over the 12-year-old student’s death, Chrisland School administration stated that Whitney had reported “not-too-buoyant” health on January 20, contrary to her parents’ claims.

Whitney was taken to a health center rather than a hospital, according to the school, due to proximity concerns.

Chrisland denied any wrongdoing in the death case, citing the fact that she slumped in public.

“Our immediate response was to take advantage of proximity by identifying the nearest medical facility to take her to, where the doctor on duty administered oxygen and every aid possible to her,” the institution had added.

This is not the first time Chrisland School Lagos has been involved in a crisis involving one of its students.

Four teachers were arrested in mid-2022 after a sex tape made by Chrisland students surfaced online during an outing.
