FRSC to Commence Enforcement of Speed Limiters By April 1, 2016

The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced that it was not going back on its plan to commence the enforcement of the installation of speed limiting device by commercial and haulage vehicles operators in Nigeria from April 1.

Sector Commander of the FRSC, Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Sunday Oghenekaro, who made this known while speaking to newsmen in Abuja, urged commercial motorists to install the device in their vehicles before April 1 when the agency would begin to arrest and prosecute defaulters.

The corps last year held a nationwide rally ahead of the implementation of the speed limit device on vehicles whose implementation was initially fixed for June 1, 2015.

But it had to be postponed due to pressure from stakeholders. It was also felt that the period was too close to the 2015 general elections.

The first rally was at Ojota New Garage in Lagos, which was attended by virtually all the transport unions with their national and state leaders.

The other event for corporate drivers and other motorists was held at the Lagos Sheraton Hotel, which provided an opportunity for more interaction among the stakeholders on how to ensure a smooth and effective implementation of the safety device project.
