World’s Largest Cruise Ship Set For Delivery In France

The largest cruise ship ever built, the 120, 000 tonne Harmony of the Seas, was due for delivery on Thursday at the Saint-Nazaire shipyard in western France where it was constructed.

The ten-story vessel, described as the World’s largest passenger ship, was officially being handed over to owner company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. by builder STX France ten days ahead of it’s maiden voyage.

At 66 metres (217 feet), it is the widest cruise ship ever built, while its 362 metre length makes it 50 metres longer than the height if the Eiffel Tower.

Designed to accommodate 6,360 passengers, Harmony of the Seas cost nearly one billion euros to build, was completed in two and a half years. It boasts of 2,700 cabins, 16 decks and a crew of more than 2,100 people. Some of its larger than life features include the tallest-ever slide at sea, two 13 metre high rock climbing walls and an ice-skating rink.

Harmony of the Seas will leave the port on Sunday, for Southampton in England where it will welcome its first passengers and embark on its official maiden voyage to Barcelona on May 22.

The Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, already operates two giant sister liners to the Harmony of the Seas called Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas.

STX France is working on yet another sister liner, which will be unveiled in March 2018.
