UNICEF, Benue Sign $5m MOU To Boost Infrastructural Growth

The United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Benue State Government on a development plan to boost infrastructural growth of the agrarian state.

The MOU which is the 2016 UN Annual work Plan  for development in Benue State was estimated at $5m. Of the sum, the state government will contribute 30 percent.

The UNICEF deputy representative, Mr Samuel Nyambati said over 10 donor agencies have joined in the 2016 work plan which, he stated it will cover varied areas of partnership including water and sanitation, primary health care, as well as agriculture amongst others.

The Acting Governor Benson Abounu explained that the Governor Ortom administration was committed to ensure rapid development the previous administration had paid lips service to the state’s developmental plan.

Abounu said, ‘’The immediate past administration in the state for reasons best known to it let go donor agencies that were in the state but immediately this administration came into office we invited them and discussed ways of partnering together so as to move the state forward because Benue is in dare need of development”.

He, however, regretted that the state was yet to achieve its desired growth due to the ineptitude for the implementation of policies and programmes that could have helped the state to grow.
