Indigenous Firm Signs $146million Nigeria’s First Solar Investment Deal

A Nigerian firm, Pan Africa Solar, has signed the nation’s first Solar Power Purchase Agreement, PPA, with the Federal Government.

The 75 megawatts solar photovoltaic power project in Katsina State, has a total investment of $146,000,000. It will sell power at 11.5 U.S cents per kWh and will be inaugurated in 2017. The signing of the agreement was took place at the office of the Nigeria Bulk Energy Trader (NBET).

The special guest of honour at the ground-breaking ceremony and Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, was represented by Mrs. Lolade Abiola, of Sector Lead Solar and Access Advisory Power Team, Office of the Vice President.

Once inaugurated, the 75MW solar project will be the largest of its type in Sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa) and will provide power to 1.1 million Nigerians.

It will also generate over 500 jobs for Nigerians during the 12-month construction period. The project is expected to also create an estimated 40,000 new jobs from the additional economic activity stimulated by the power plant.
