Nigeria’s population has been projected to spike up to 440 million by 2050, making the nation the third most populous in the world.
This was disclosed on Monday, June 20, Abuja by the David Omokaro Foundation, DOF. The foundation announced this during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the foundation and International Institute on Ageing (INIA) United Nations.
The foundation further projected that at 3.3 per cent growth rate, the population of older persons in Africa would exceed 205 million in 2050, adding that the Nigerian older adults entering 60 and above would be 28 million in same year.
The founding Director and Executive Director of DOF, Dr. Emem Omokaro, while delivering her welcome address at the ceremony, pointed out that the agreement between the foundation and the international organization confers the right and privileges to DOF as host organization for INIA’s programme in all aspects of ageing in the country.
