The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has donated assorted mass education materials to the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The Fund said that the materials would be used to improve basic and non-formal education across the state.

Head, UNICEF, Sokoto Field Office, Mr Mohammed Mohiuddin, handed over the materials to the board on Thursday in Sokoto.

“These materials are to provide improved quality education to 1.6 million children in Sokoto and other northern states. In the same vein, 500,000 pupils are expected to acquire both reading and writing skills at primary three level,” he said.

He added that ‎the parents of the benefiting pupils would be encouraged to enroll their wards in schools, to help them get quality education within 9 months.

The Secretary of the board, Alhaji Farouk Shehu, assured that the materials would be used to improve basic and non- formal education in the state.

“The board will distribute the materials to all the benefiting primary schools in Bodinga, Goronyo, Wurno, Gudu, and Binji local government areas.”

“A committee has been set up to oversee and monitor the distribution of these materials, to ensure that they get to the intended beneficiaries,” he said.
