Fuel Queues Cripple Lagos

Business activities were almost crippled in Lagos State on Tuesday as most commuters got stuck in traffic gridlocks caused by angry motorists who had queued up to buy fuel from filling stations that were still selling, BizwatchNigeria investigation has showed.

Road users on highways that had more than one petrol filling station located thereon experienced severe hold-ups as the lengthy fuel queues that started building up since last night stretched several kilometers.

The roads leading from Lagos Mainland to the Island, to major markets and others leading to the state’s central business districts all witnessed the same situation, as they were mostly blocked by the long petrol queues.

It is reports that a similar situation is being experienced in most of the commercial cities around the country, as the fuel supply situation continues to worsen.

The Federal Government does not appear to have an immediate solution to the fuel supply crisis that has lingered for over three weeks now.

Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State for Petroleum, who also doubles as the Group Managing Director of NNPC,   last week assured Nigerians that the scarcity would disappear before the end of this week.

Despite producing over 2 million barrels of crude oil a day, Nigeria still  imports most of its finished petroleum products, as its four refineries remain in a comatose state.
