The United States deported a total of 41 Nigerians on Wednesday, June 22. The deportees, all male arrived the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, MMA, Lagos at 12.20pm yesterday onboard the Miami Ai International.
It was gathered that the deportees were received by immigration officials from the Lagos Airport Command, the police and other security agencies at the airport.
The development is coming few days after 162 Nigerians voluntary returnees who were stranded in Libya were brought into the country by International Organization for Migrants (IOM) in collaboration with Nigeria Embassy in Tripoli in a chartered flight.
Although the spokesman of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Murtala Mohammed Airport Command, Mr Adebola Adetula refused comment, Leadership gathered that nine of the deportees were deported for drug offence, while 26 of them were deported for Police related offences. Six were deported for immigration offences.
More than 500 Nigerians have been deported in the last seven months from the United Kingdom, Australia and now the United States.
