President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) as part of a fresh round of appointments across federal government agencies and commissions.
The appointment was announced in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The new REA board will be chaired by Fayose and include Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as members and non-executive directors.
The incumbent Director-General of the agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, will remain on the board alongside the agency’s three previously appointed executive directors.
The appointments form part of 26 new appointments approved by President Tinubu across 10 federal agencies and commissions.
The statement said all appointments take immediate effect.
The Rural Electrification Agency plays a central role in expanding electricity access across Nigeria through off-grid, mini-grid and renewable energy projects, particularly in underserved and rural communities.
The agency has also been driving several clean energy initiatives aimed at supporting Nigeria’s energy transition, improving electricity access and stimulating socio-economic development.
