PENGASSAN, NUPENG Suspend Strike

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu,  last week, assured that all issues raised by oil workers’ unions would be addressed to ensure sanity in the industry during a press conference on Friday in Abuja. The unions are Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

The leadership of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, has thereby suspended their strike action.  The strike was called off after a closed door meeting with the Minister of Labor Chris Ngige at the state house Abuja.

The meeting which started at about 3pm yesterday Tuesday July 12th, ended at about 2am this morning. Among issues addressed were undue retrenchment of oil workers by International Oil Companies, bad road networks that affect oil transport workers among others.
