NPA Workers Get Salary Raise After 18 Years

NPA Workers Get Salary Increments

Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) workers have seen their salaries increased, as the Federal Government (FG) already approved it.

This is according to the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, who made this known at the long service award organised by the management of the ports.

Commending the Managing- Director (MD), NPA, Mohammad Bello-Koko, for what he described as his unprecedented performance in revenue generation and remittance, Sambo also expressed gratitude to the NPA management for its commitment to staff welfarism.

“In my median visit to the NPA upon resumption of office, as minister of transportation I was commending the NPA MD, for his unprecedented performance in revenue generation and remittance, he has solicited my backing and support to fast track the processes and procedures for the implementation of salary increase which I immediately acceded to and today I am delighted that it has been achieved,” the minister stated.

Prior to this development, the NPA chief had thanked the FG for their support towards the ensuring increment of staff salaries, saying, “we will like to use this opportunity to appreciate everyone here for their support towards the delivery of salary increase for our dedicated staff.”

Bello-Koko said equipping the human capital resource to be the best has been one of the overriding objectives of the management.

He added that the agency would make a good move in this noble cause.

“Our drive towards ensuring 100% occupational health and safety for our staff which has resulted in the ISO certification of Calabar and Onne ports, and we are not relenting on it,” Bello-Koko said.

BizWatch Nigeria understands that the salary increment of NPA workers came a few months after the President-General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju accused the management of the ports of “unfair labour practices” by refusing to review the salary of its workers in 18 years despite its “jumbo earnings”.

According to him, NPA workers’ salaries had remained the same for no less than 18 years.
