Lagos Govt Bans Sale Of Alcohol At Motor Parks

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has announced that alcoholic beverages would not be sold on state roadsides or in motor parks.

Gbemisola Akinpelu, the agency’s corps marshal, stated in a statement issued on Sunday that “street trading on roadsides, pedestrian bridges, setbacks, medians, and hawking on major highways” violate state environmental regulations.

Akinpelu stated that the LAGESC enforcement team would guarantee that people displaying alcoholic beverages in motor parks are removed.

She went on to say that the agency has made a number of arrests and arraigned defaulters in court since it began enforcement.

Akinpelu cautioned street traders and hawkers to avoid Lagos roads, stating that the agency’s officers would tighten the clamp down in the coming days.

She noted that Lagos state environmental regulations require the daily distribution of seized perishable goods to orphanage homes, while non-perishables are kept in storage until a court order for public auction is obtained.
