Kia Drops First Sketches Of Upcoming B-segment SUV

Kia

Kia has released the first sketches of its upcoming compact SUV, which will only be unveiled later in the summer. Essentially, it will be production version of the SP Signature Concept that was revealed back in April, but strangely enough, European markets (including the United Kingdom) will not be getting it.

Instead, the new model will go on sale in Korea later this year, with other global markets to follow. The carmaker describes its new creation as one that is suited for the “millennial generation with a sophisticated modern design.”

Kia Suv

Based on the provided sketches, the yet-unnamed Kia SUV is almost identical to the aforementioned concept, albeit with some revisions. The long bonnet boasts strong creases, and it blends in neatly with a trim piece that sits just above the tiger nose grille.

Just like the concept, the LED headlamps closely flanking the grille boast a three-dimensional light graphic with a diamond pattern at their trailing edges. The smaller inlet just below the main grille and curved sections below the headlamps are also carryovers from the concept, as is the design of the lower apron.

Around back, the taillights mimic the look of the front clusters, with a trim piece bearing the Kia badge nestled between then. Concaved areas on the bumper accommodate the rear reflectors/fog lamps, while the bold diffuser and dual “exhausts” give the SUV a rugged look.

Kia did not provide a sketch of the interior, but we should expect something similar to the show car, whereby a widescreen display takes up most of the space on the dashboard. For now, it remains a mystery that will only be answered when the model makes its debut.

“We have created a car which stands out everywhere, from the city to the countryside. Its robust yet sporty design will be matched by a wide range of features and technologies that are universally suited to younger buyers in markets around the world. Our new small SUV is a proposition that no other car in its class will match,” said Byung Chul Juh, Head of Kia Styling at Kia Motors Corporation.
