Insufficient Funds Stalls NASS N52 Billion National Institute Project

An assessment tour of the permanent site of the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS) by the chairman of the governing council of the institute, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the alternate chairman and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara yesterday, disclosed that the work on the project has been stalled since 2015 due to lack of funds.

The project manager said the N52.6 bn project occupying a 80 square meter landmass along the Airport Road in Abuja, is designed to be a world-class ultra-modern facility and was awarded to Julius Berger in 2012 with a completion timeline of 24 months. But, four years on, work on the project has been suspended for paucity of funds.

The Senate President observed that though a lot of work has been done, there are still some challenges and these includes funding.

“We know a lot has been done and it s commendable. However, there are few challenges and foremost is funding to compplete the project. The National Assembly will do all to see that the project is completed in phases.”

He stated that it was in the interest of the National Assembly to have the project completed as it will serve the whole continent.
