FRSC Advises Motorists To Utilise Speed Limit Devices

Participants of the FRSC-organized Stakeholders’ forum on Speed Limiting Devices held at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos recommended that the Federal Government should mandate all Nigerian Automobile Manufacturers to install speed limiting devices in their vehicles.

After exhaustive deliberations, members of the forum resolved that FRSC and major stakeholders should sustain mass awareness on the benefits of speed limiting devices nationwide while Transport Organizations, Fleet Operators and Vehicle Owners are required to install speed limiting device which conforms with approved requirements by the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON)

Participants at the one-day stakeholders’ forum came from various backgrounds including transport companies, transport unions, law enforcement agencies, NGOs and members of the public.

The forum’s communiqué recommended that Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) should set up deadline for all imported vehicles, “while National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) should ensure that vehicles manufactured in Nigeria are fitted with speed limiters.”

Members of the forum also resolved that state enforcement and enlightenment machinery should be activated to complement FRSC’s efforts and urged government to re-introduce tolling for the maintenance of the roads.
