EFCC Recovers ₦30bn From Suspended AG, Ahmed Idris

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that it recovered over 30 billion naira out of the 109 billion naira alleged to have been fraudulently amassed by the federation’s suspended Accountant General (AG), Ahmed Idris.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of the EFCC, revealed this on Thursday during the weekly ministerial briefing at the State House.

In response to a question about the commission’s independence, the EFCC chief stated that high-profile individuals and government agencies across the board, including the EFCC, have been investigated, demonstrating the government’s successful anti-corruption drive.

He claimed that a Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) would make it difficult for Nigerians to launder criminal proceeds over the next two to three years.

He also stated that by the end of the year, the commission will publish nationwide auction real estate listings in 15 different locations across the country in order to sell over 150 forfeited flats and apartments.
