Main story

The Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency (EBSHIA) says more than 137,000 people have benefited from its health insurance programmes, underscoring the growing reach of healthcare interventions across the state.

The agency’s Executive Secretary, Divine Igwe, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abakaliki during a rally organised to endorse Governor Francis Nwifuru for a second term in office. Igwe said the beneficiaries included patients who received treatment for cataracts, glaucoma and other health conditions under the agency’s programmes. He attributed the achievements to the governor’s support for healthcare initiatives and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to achieving its Vision 2030 goals.

Officials of the Ministry of Health and the EBSHIA Board also commended the administration’s support for the health sector, noting that the agency’s interventions had improved healthcare delivery and saved lives across the state. Several beneficiaries who attended the event expressed appreciation for the programme, saying it provided free access to medical treatments, surgeries, maternal healthcare, childbirth services and other interventions. Responding through the Chairman of the APC in Ebonyi State, Stanley Okoro Emegha, Governor Nwifuru expressed satisfaction with the agency’s performance and pledged continued support for its programmes.

He also assured residents that his administration would continue to expand the scheme to reach more people across the state.
