Nigerian Police Receives Over 800,000 Applications

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has revealed that it has received 897,170 applications as at 4 pm on May 11 from applicants seeking enlistment into the Force.

Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the Police Service Commission (PSC) revealed this in Abuja, yesterday.

He also disclosed that 259,046 applications were received for Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) cadre, and 209,067 and 429,057 applicants applied for Inspector and Police Constable (PC) cadres, respectively.

Recently, the commission revealed that that it would recruit 500 Cadet ASP, 500 Cadet Inspectors, 1,500 Specialist Officers and 7,500 Constables in the recruitment of 10,000 policemen.

Mr. Solomon Arase, the Inspector General of Police has said that about 800,000 that applied for the 10,000 available slots were suspected to be within the ages of 30 and 34 years, whereas the stipulated age limit is 28.

With the current economic situation of the nation, it is obvious that the unemployment level is at an all-time high, hence the high volume of applications received.

The exercise would end on Friday, May 13, 2016.
