Non-alcoholic beverage giant, Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC) has built and commissioned a community hall in Ogwofia Owa Community, located in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The commissioning which witnessed the presence of government officials, community leaders, clerics, various youth and women groups, took place at the Community Centre in Ogwofia Owa in October.
In her remarks at the event, Legal, Public Affairs and Communications Director for NBC, Mrs. Sade Morgan, said, “NBC is committed to improving the social and economic condition of communities where the Company operates, hence the donation of this community hall in Ogwofia Owa.
“ The success of the Community Hall project is a product of deliberate and useful engagement between community stakeholders and NBC, which was facilitated by the Enugu State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources”.
Morgan encouraged the community to take ownership of the facility and put it to good use.
In his welcome remarks, the traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Highness Igwe Tom Inyiama, the Ogwugwu Ebenebe 1of Ogwofia Owa Kingdom stated that, “the people of Ogwofia Owa Community are indeed very grateful and happy that NBC has immensely supported development of the Community that hitherto had a legacy of relying on self-help and cooperative support for its growth and development”.
While commenting, representative of the Enugu State Governor at the event and Commissioner for Environment and Mineral resources, Amb. Fidel Ayogu lauded NBC for the project, which he said has added to the development of the community.
He thanked the company for partnering with the ministry to promote environmental sustainability. He enjoined the Ogwofia-Owa community to optimize the facility and create enabling environment for NBC and other companies in the state to do their business.
The newly commissioned Community Hall would serve as a multipurpose centre for community events and special occasions.
NBC is reputed for investment in the well-being of its communities through its intervention programs in the areas of youth empowerment, educational support, schools’ infrastructure upgrade and provision of potable water amongst other value-adding legacy projects.
