The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, has outlined the government’s ambitious plans for 2024, emphasizing the completion of ongoing projects as a top priority. Omotoso revealed that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to allocate funds from the “ambitious N2.2tn budget” to propel infrastructure development, with a particular focus on hospitals and the eagerly anticipated Lekki airport.
Among the noteworthy projects slated for completion is the Mercy Seat Hospital, touted to be the largest pediatric hospital in Africa upon its conclusion. Omotoso expressed optimism about the significant impact it would have on healthcare in the region. Additionally, the Mental Health Centre in Ketu Ejinrin, a 500-bed hospital, is set to be finalized, underlining the state’s commitment to addressing mental health issues.
The Commissioner highlighted the importance of mental health, noting, “People don’t pay attention to it. They talk about headaches and other things happening to people. But mental health is quite important, and the Lagos State government is giving attention to that. So, that hospital, the 500-bed hospital, will be completed. It’s not just going to be a hospital. It’s going to be a rehabilitation centre.”
In a move aimed at transforming the healthcare landscape, the Ojo General Hospital, the first of its kind in decades, is also on the list of projects scheduled for completion in 2024.
A significant highlight of the government’s development agenda is the construction of a new airport in the Lekki area. Omotoso affirmed that the Lekki airport project would contribute to the realization of a mega city, reflecting the administration’s commitment to enhancing the state’s infrastructure.
“The new airport that we are building in the Lekki area, of course, is going to come on board, too, and so many other big, big projects that will make for a mega city that the administration of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu is going to be doing,” Omotoso stated.
In closing, the Commissioner assured residents of Lagos of exciting times ahead, promising “great projects that we are going to be doing to provide employment, to make comfort for Lagosians” in the upcoming year. The comprehensive development agenda outlined by the Lagos State government underscores its commitment to fostering progress and creating a conducive environment for its residents.
