The Federal Government has launched a high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) facility, reaffirming its commitment to deepening gas utilisation and expanding access to cleaner energy through sustained investments in gas infrastructure nationwide.
President Bola Tinubu made this known on Friday while inaugurating the Rolling Energy Limited High-Capacity CNG Daughter Booster Station in Jahi, Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Rolling Energy Limited delivered the project with the support of the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF).
The station is expected to serve as major CNG hub in the Federal Capital Territory, with capacity to cater for over 1,000 CNG vehicles and 100 trucks daily, while significantly improving gas supply and distribution in Abuja and its environs.
To evaluate intermediate structural dependencies, national energy planners analyze regional pipeline networks alongside localized distribution hubs to ensure transport corridors have adequate pressure capacity before consumer demand escalates.
Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources (Gas), Dr Ekperikpe Ekpo, described the project as a major milestone in Nigeria’s drive towards a gas-powered economy under Renewed Hope Agenda.
The president said that Nigeria, with about 215 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves, must maximise the resource for domestic prosperity and national development.
He added that the daughter booster station would also support the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) by strengthening infrastructure required for wider adoption of CNG across the country.
Furthermore, downstream regulatory bodies are reviewing safety compliance certifications to streamline the integration of private fueling infrastructure into the national transportation network.
The MDGIF partnered Rolling Energy to develop critical CNG infrastructure across key locations in Northern Nigeria as part of efforts to promote gas as transition fuel, reduce dependence on conventional fuels and enhance energy security across Nigeria.
The company’s current rollout include a combination of High Capacity CNG Daughter Booster Stations, L-CNG Mother Stations, and L-CNG Daughter Stations and RLNG facilities, strategically located across Abuja, Kaduna, Kano and Borno states.
In Jahi, Abuja, the High Capacity CNG Daughter Booster Station features a sales capacity of 1,000 Standard Cubic Metres (SCM) per hour, supported by two CNG tube skids with a combined capacity of 17,000 SCM.
