Coventry University, ranked as the number 12 University in the United Kingdom, according to the Guardian University league table, and the number 1 Top New University in the Complete University Guide 2018, recently held its Open Day session for prospective students who might wish to enlist for the tertiary institution’s courses.

The Open Day session, held in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt respectively, was an avenue for the representatives of the prestigious university to highlight the benefits of studying at Coventry University as well as steps to take in pursuing admission into the university, amongst other issues. It also offered prospective participants the opportunity of making enquiries about issues such as courses of study and scholarship opportunities.

On hand to address the students were Dr. Babatunde Anifowoshe, a Senior Lecturer in Petroleum & Environmental Technology programme and Ada Kelechi Ahuche, Head of Operations, West and Central Africa, Coventry University.

Speaking on why Coventry University remains top choice for students seeking university education in the UK, Dr. Anifowoshe said: “The teaching style at Coventry University is dynamic. We have courses in specific areas which are geared towards ensuring that the graduates will be able to adapt to the ever-changing dynamics of both local and global economies. We also have a programme called Faculty on the Factory Floor. This enables students studying specific courses to have a first-hand experience of putting what they are learning in the classrooms to test, in real- life working scenarios. With this practical experience, they are more enlightened. For a small fee, the undergraduates also have the opportunity of learning a foreign language. The city of Coventry is also a relatively affordable town to reside in, hence this is a cost advantage for Nigerian students.”

He added that Coventry University was investing 100 million pounds in research while the institution also has a one million pound scholarship grant for prospective Nigerian students, if they meet the set criteria for access to the funds.

Dr. Anifowoshe further said that Coventry University students have a high job placement rate upon graduation. According to him, many of the university’s graduates have secured employment in both public and private organisations; with some starting their own consultancies.

Further alluding to Coventry University’s prowess in academic excellence, he stated that the institution was awarded a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold Award by the UK government for outstanding teaching and learning.

The University offers four Admission slots; January, April, May and September, thereby ensuring that prospective students who miss an admission date can meet up with the other admission slots in the year. The institution currently runs four faculties which are: the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Faculty of Business and Law, Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing and the Health and Life Sciences Faculty.

In her presentation, Ada Kelechi Ahuche enlightened the students on admission requirements into Coventry University and tuition fees.
