Zinedine Zidane will return to Real Madrid and the club will appoint him as Solari’s replacement this Monday, according to an exclusive report from La Sexta. COPE confirmed the report shortly after.

La Sexta already reported that Zidane was Florentino Perez’s main candidate to coach the team although the Frenchman wanted to wait until the summer before making his return. Still, it seems that the club managed to convince him and that he will indeed coach the team for the remainder of the season as well.

According to the same report from La Sexta, Real Madrid’s board will meet later this Monday and will announce Zidane’s return shortly after. He will coach the team this Tuesday. The Frenchman will be given the power to control the transfers of the club and rebuild the squad as he pleases, per that same report.

Zinedine Zidane led Real Madrid to three straight Champions League titles —one of them a part of a historic Liga-Champions brace— and left the club last summer in surprising fashion.
