Main Story

Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, in partnership with Fidelity Bank Plc, has empowered no fewer than 1,950 residents of the state with livelihood support materials aimed at improving economic stability and household welfare.

Speaking during the distribution exercise on Friday in Awka, Soludo said the intervention was carried out through her Healthy Living initiative in collaboration with the bank.

Under the programme, 100 women received sewing machines, while another 100 women were provided with grinding machines to support small-scale businesses and income generation. In addition, 250 school children received solar-powered school bags, while 1,500 vulnerable residents benefited from food bank packs distributed under the initiative.

Soludo described the programme as a demonstration of collective responsibility and strategic partnership aimed at improving the living conditions of vulnerable groups across the state.

She noted that the Healthy Living initiative, as a non-governmental organisation, depends largely on partnerships and goodwill to sustain its social interventions and community support programmes.

According to her, Fidelity Bank’s support goes beyond material donations and reflects an investment in human development, family welfare, and long-term community growth.

She urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the items distributed and contribute positively to the development of their communities.

Earlier, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to social impact and community empowerment through targeted interventions.

Onyeali-Ikpe explained that the initiative marked the first time the bank had merged three of its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility programmes into a single intervention platform.

She disclosed that Anambra was selected as the first state to benefit from the integrated programme structure.

According to her, the Food Bank Initiative was created to provide food support for vulnerable households facing economic hardship, while the Lighting Young Minds Programme focuses on improving access to education through the distribution of solar-powered school bags.

She added that the Give Her Power Initiative was designed to equip women with tools and resources needed to build sustainable livelihoods and expand economic opportunities.

Onyeali-Ikpe stated that the bank’s purpose extends beyond financial transactions and includes supporting communities through programmes that promote social and economic stability.

The Issues

  • Sustaining the productivity and long-term use of the distributed vocational equipment.
  • Expanding the integrated corporate social responsibility model to additional states.
  • Addressing economic hardship and food insecurity affecting vulnerable households.

What’s Being Said

  • Dr. Nonye Soludo said: “This is not merely to distribute items or celebrate another social impact initiative, but to reaffirm a simple truth that when we invest in people, we invest in the future. Every woman supported, every child empowered and every family assisted represents a step towards building a stronger, healthier and more prosperous Anambra.”
  • Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe said: “Our purpose goes beyond accounts, transactions and banking services. We believe that when communities thrive, businesses thrive; when families prosper, societies become stronger; and when people are empowered, possibilities become endless.”
  • Onyeali-Ikpe also said: “We are not merely distributing equipment; we are creating opportunities, unlocking potential and investing in brighter futures. Empowered women contribute significantly to stronger families, thriving communities and sustainable development.”

What’s Next

  • Beneficiaries are expected to begin using the vocational equipment for income-generating activities.
  • Fidelity Bank will continue monitoring the impact of its integrated CSR initiatives in Anambra State.
  • Organisers may consider expanding the programme to other states following evaluation of the pilot intervention.

Bottom Line

Through a partnership between Fidelity Bank Plc and the Healthy Living initiative, nearly 2,000 residents in Anambra State received economic support materials and relief items in a broad intervention aimed at strengthening livelihoods, supporting education, and improving household welfare.
