The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Yobe State has denied reports trending on social media that Corp members staged a protest on the Election Day in Jakusko Town of Yobe State over non-payment of their allowances.
Mrs. Grace J. Adzer, the NYSC Coordinator in Yobe State, reacted in a statement made available to DAILY INDEPENDENT in Damaturu Sunday.
She said, “The attention of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Yobe State has been drawn to a publication in an online media “Yerwa Express News” alleging that corps members posted to Jakusko LGA for election ad hoc duty staged a protest to demand the payment of their training allowances by the Independent National Electoral Commission, on Saturday, February 16, 2019.
“We wish to state unequivocally that none of our corps members was engaged in any form of protest in Jakusko LGA as reported in the publication.”
She further explained, “For the avoidance of doubt, all NYSC staff posted to Jakusko for the same function confirmed that INEC has paid training allowances to all corps members participating in the election exercise in the local government.
“In addition, the NYSC scheme as a disciplined youth organization does not entertain nor encourage any protest or demonstration by corps members. The corps members has an approved channel of communication through which they can seek redress for any grievances as contained in Section 11 of the NYSC Bye – Laws. We wish to appeal to members of the public to please disregard this news story.”
