The Federal Government has lauded Ondo State, ranking it as one of the fastest growing economies in Nigeria.
Minister of Environment, Mrs. Amina Mohammed made the declaration during a courtesy visit to Governor Olusegun Mimiko in Akure after an Environmental Impact Assessment of the Ilaje Free Trade Zone in the Southern Senatorial District of the state.
The minister expressed her satisfaction over the huge developmental projects in the area. According to her, the visit revealed the ambition of the state is to become one of the leading states economically. She said the target of the project is to match the achievements of the present federal administration towards diversifying the economy.
Head of the Technical Review Panel, Engr. Funso Makanjuola, explained that the project if completed in time would place the Mimiko-led administration in an enviable pedestal. He added that the Ilaje Free Trade Zone would catalyse infrastructural development of Ugbo, Ilaje, the state and Nigeria at large.
Makanjuola said there would be adequate interactions between foreign and local contractors and the report of the panel will be implemented to the letter.
Governor Olusegun Mimiko expressed delight on the visit, stating that the Free Trade Zone would provide immense possibilities for infrastructural development.
He stated that the projected Deep Sea Mining Port in that axis would be the first in Nigeria that will add value to agriculture and solid minerals exploration.
Mimiko lauded the ministry on its efforts to raise the economic potential of the nation. He assured the team that the nation would be proud of Ondo’s pioneering efforts on the project very soon.
