This assertion was made during a press briefing on Wednesday, June 20 in Lagos,  when the Agbakoba-led Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM formally adopted the Alliance for New Nigeria, ANN which he said is the 3rd Force/fresh breed democratic vehicle for NIM’s ballot based, PVC driven revolution for 2019.

A statement jointly signed by Agbakoba and Dr. Abduljalil Tafawa Balewa, and read by NIM’s deputy director general, Mallam Naseer Kura, during the event said: “Having come to the conclusion that political parties are crucial pillars for nurturing popular democracy and good governance in any society, and also the realisation that all the political parties that have had the rare privilege of superintending over our polity in recent memory have failed in delivering popular constitutional democracy as well as good governance, NIM as a movement of Nigerian people, was faced with the option of either forming a new political party or adopting an untainted registered party as a constitutional electoral vehicle for bringing into manifest its most cherished new prosperous Nigeria that will work for all citizens.

“Given the timeline for the next general elections, the first option (forming a new party) does not appear very feasible as there is no time to waste, hence our resolve to go for the second option of adopting a fresh and untainted political party with clear elemental potentials of delivering dividens of democracy to our people towards realisation of the new Nigeria of our dream.”

The statement further stated that, after serious consultations with 17 political parties, NIM found ANN to be the appropriate vehicle to actualise its political vision and agenda on a credible democratic alternative platform for fresh breed political leaders and ideologies.

Agbakoba urged the Nigerian people to join forces with the new alignment to reject the present ruling elites for abandoning their primary responsibility to the people.

“Armed with our PVCs and God with us, we surely shall give birth to a new Nigeria, where peace and justice will reign,” the statement added.

Accepting the adoption, Chairman ANN, Dr Jay Osi Samuels, thanked the leadership of NIM for believing in his party. He assured that with the joint forces of like minds and same ideologies and vision of taking Nigeria out of the present hopelessness, the emergence of a new Nigeria led by fresh breed political leaders was only some months away.

Present during the formal adoption were presidential aspirants of ANN – Mr Fela Durotoye, Lady Elishama Ideh, Dr Thomas Wilson Ikubese and Dr Sina Fagbenro Bayo of POWA party.

Other dignitaries present included Chief Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu, Director General of NIM, Veteran Wale Okunniyi and his team.
