Renewed Investors’ Confidence Adds N44billion to Stock Market Gain in New Week

The equity market  saw a sustained positive trend on Monday, May 9 on improved investor’s confidence.
The market capitalization, which opened at N8.841 trillion, improved by N44 billion or 0.50 per cent to close at N8.885trillion while the All-Share Index (ASI) rose by 126.7 points or 0.49 per cent to close at 25,828.30, compared with 25,701.60 on Friday.
The total value of stocks traded on the floors of the bourse was N6.44bn, up by 451.97% from N1.17bn recorded last Friday. The total volume of stocks traded was 559.95mn in 3,655 deals.

The three most actively traded stocks were: ETI (244.58mn), Access Bank (161.61mn) and Transcorp (24.67mn). The most actively traded sectors were: Financial Services (510.94mn), Conglomerates (26.19mn) and Consumer Goods (10.23mn)

The appreciation recorded in the share prices of Zenith Bank, GT Bank, UACN, Nigerian Breweries and Dangote Sugar were mainly responsible for the gain recorded in the Index. Year-To-Date (YTD), it depreciated by 9.82%.
