Equity Trading Races Uphill As NSE Index Gains 0.60%

Trading activities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, closed rested in the Green on Thursday, April 28, as the All Share Index gained 0.60 percent or 147.8 points to close at 24,957.08 basis points compared with a fall of 0.06 percent or 14.57 points at 24,809.29 points on Wednesday.

FBN Holdings led the most active stocks for the day, trading a total of 171.9 million shares worth N634.9 million, Access came second with a sale of 24.5 million shares worth N99.3 million, UBA followed with an exchange of 21.3 million valued at N72.3 million.

Guaranty and Fidelity Bank also traded 13.5 million shares and 12.7 million shares worth N224.4 million and N14.8 million respectively.

Total Oil Plc led the day’s 18 gainers, rising by 10.09 % or N14.13 to close at N154.19 per share followed by Wema Bank Plc which appreciated by 5.33% or 4 kobo to close at 79 kobo per share. Flourmills also gained 5% or N1 to close at N21 per share

Nascon Allied Plc and Honeywell also added 4.88% and 4.76% or 39 kobo and 3 kobo respectively to close at N8.39 and 66 kobo per share.

On the other hand, the day’s 22 losers were led by May & Baker Plc with a loss of 5.88% or 5 kobo to close at 80 kobo per share. Forte Oil Plc followed as it dipped 5% or N11.87 to close at N225.63 per share, while WAPCO Insurance Plc lost 4.96% or N3.67 to close at N70.33 per share.

Moreover, Airservice Plc. dropped 4.94% or 8 kobo to close at N1.54 and Sterling Bank Plc. fell 4.73% or 7 kobo to close at N1.41 per share.

A total of 338.34 million shares valued at N2 billion were exchanged in 3,428 deals, against a loss of N5.0 billion to close at N8.53 trillion recorded previously.
