NSE Index Drops 2.72% As Market Activities Head Farther South

Transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, maintained movement south on Wednesday, June 1 as the All Share Index lost 2.72 percent to close at 26,910.23 basis points.

This was in contrast to the drop of 4.26 percent to close at 27,663.16 basis points recorded previously.

Similarly, Market capitalization lost N258 billion to close at N9.24 trillion from N9.5 trillion recorded on Tuesday, May 31.

The Most active stocks were Zenith Bank which sold 56.7 million shares worth N770.4 million, Guaranty Trust Bank with sales of 39.5 million shares worth N696.6 million and Transcorp which exchanged 30.5 million shares for N37.2 million.

Stanbic led the day’s 37 decliners dropping 9.70 percent or N1.63 to close at N15.18 per share, GTB followed with a depreciation of 9.63 percent or N1.85 to close at N17.65 per share, while Oando fell by 9.54 percent or 68 kobo to close at N6.45 per share. UBA also dropped 9.47 percent or 45 kobo to close at N4.30 per share and FCMB lost 9.36 percent or 16 kobo to close at N1.55 per share.

On the other hand, Etranzact led the day’s eight gainers with a gain of 9.75 percent or 52 kobo to close at N5.88 per share, trailed by Cadbury which advanced by 9.02 percent or N1.52 to close at N18.37 per share, while UAC-Prop appreciated by 4.98 percent or 20 kobo to close at N4.22 per share.

Union Dicon grew by 4.97 percent or 59 kobo to close at N12.46 per share and Transnationwide Express gained 4.82 percent or 8 kobo to close at N1.74 per share.

At the end of the day’s trading, investors in 5,024 deals had traded a total of 352.3 million valued at N3.85 billion compared to a total of 335.1 million shares‎ valued at N3.15 billion exchanged in 4,301 deals on Tuesday.
