Seven final year engineering students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, designed and constructed a mini bus with locally sourced materials made to suit Nigeria’s topography and climatic condition and was supervised by Dr. C.H. Achebe.
“The bus was constructed from start to finish at the University’s workshop, using all necessary design software and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools. We constructed the chassis, down to every single part of the minibus,” said Callistus Ezeigwe, one of the seven.
Made up of six males and one female – Callistus Ezeigwe, Victor Obinani, Ifeanyi Ezeanolue, Ogbu Ikenna, Fidelis Ominigbo, Nnamdi Nwobodo and Chinaza Okoro, formed a group called Autozik Group.
One of the boys, Ezeugwu, said they made the minibus using mere hand tools because the university couldn’t provide them with ground equipments as used in most automobile companies.
The minibus was named “Autobully” which was coined from the normal bullion van and was completed in five months.
According to the report, five final-year engineering students previously produced a Formula 1 car (Racing car).
