The Senate has instructed its committees on Federal Capital Territory, Ethics and Privileges and Public Petitions and Procurement to launch an inquiry into alleged N9 billion building purchase by the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB.
The upper chamber gave the joint committee two weeks to turn in report of the investigation for consideration of Senate in plenary.
The probe followed a motion of urgent national importance by Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) on alleged purchase of N9 billion office complex by the CCB.
He claimed that the CCB abandoned a building project of N8 billion approved for it by the Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA) to buy already completed building worth N9 billion without due process.
He noted that the CCB had already spent over N1.47 billion on the N8 billion project, “before it surreptitiously abandoned the project for a N9 billion office complex”.
Melaye agreed that his claim was an allegation “because it would have to be investigated but I have relevant documents to buttress the veracity of my claim” .
Entitled: “Abandonment of N8 billion office headquarters project by the Code of Conduct Bureau”, Melaye prayed the Senate to note with serious concern the dumping of N8 billion office headquarters project by the CCB.
Before granting the prayer, Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu said “since it is still an allegation, if we subject this to debate, it may be prejudicing the outcome of the investigation”.
