FG Mulls EXtenson of International Passport Validity To 10 Years

Scarcity of Passport to End in March - Immigration Service

The federal government has unveiled plans to extend the validity period for international passport from five years to 10 years.

The comptroller-general of Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja at the weekend.

According to him, Nigerians should expect announcement of the policy change in the coming weeks or months.

“We have submitted a memo to the president and we believe we’ll get a positive response to that soon.

“We have received complaints that passports only take five years. The international community is not happy, wondering why passports will only be five years.

Babandede said the international community is saying it should be 10 years and the government is already considering that. He added that there is need for age validity expansion too.
