Arsenal boss Unai Emery has warned Hector Bellerin he must be patient in his quest to regain full fitness after the right-back made his injury comeback on Tuesday.
Bellerin, who had been out of action since January with an ACL injury, returned to first-team action as Arsenal defeated Nottingham Forest 5-0 in the Carabao Cup.
Emery gave his fellow countryman a brief 13-minute cameo and has called on Bellerin to bide his time following such a lengthy layoff.
peaking after the third round cup win, Emery said: ‘He wanted to play 90. He said I’m ready and wanted to play.’
The Arsenal boss went on to reveal his first choice right-back is unlikely to start against Manchester United on Monday night as the club must listen to medical advice in order to ease him back in.
Emery added: ‘I think no. Maybe in his mind yes. We need to listen to the doctor.
‘The first minutes were amazing for him. The most important for him is his attitude. He wants to help us.’
Fellow Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney made his long-awaited debut against Forest after recovering from a groin injury.
He will now be pushing to start at Old Trafford on Monday night with the Scotsman battling Sead Kolasinac for a starting spot.
