The All Progressives Congress (APC) has received no fewer than 12,000 defectors from various political parties in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in what party leaders described as a boost to its grassroots support.
The new members were formally welcomed at separate events in the Ramin Kura and Gure/Kahugu wards, attended by government officials, party leaders, community representatives and supporters.
Representing Gov. Uba Sani, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abubakar Buba, said the administration’s commitment to justice, fairness and inclusive governance had continued to attract support across the state.
He added that investments in rural infrastructure, including roads, schools and other public facilities, had strengthened public confidence in the government and encouraged more people to join the ruling party.
Buba assured the defectors that they would enjoy equal opportunities within the APC and would be fully integrated without discrimination.
Lere Local Government Chairman, Jafaru Ahmad, described the mass defection as a reflection of growing public confidence in the APC-led administration, while the party’s local chairman, Jonathan Shekarau, pledged equal treatment for the new members.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former PDP members Nathan Azman and Rayyanu Dauda said they were inspired to join the APC by what they described as Gov. Sani’s inclusive leadership and commitment to equitable development.
They, however, appealed to the state government to rehabilitate roads in their communities and complete a secondary school project that has remained abandoned for decades.
The defectors also pledged their loyalty to the APC and expressed support for the state’s development agenda.
