The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the Nigeria Agenda 2050, a plan to increase real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth by 7%, create 165 million new jobs, and reduce poverty to 2.1 million by 2050.
This comes approximately 29 months after President Muhammadu Buhari established the National Steering Committee to prepare the Medium-Term National Development Plan 2021-2025 and the Nigeria Agenda 2050.
The overall goal is for Nigeria to progress to Upper Middle-Income status, and then to High-Income status, by 2050.
Census
FEC also approved ₦2.8 billion for the National Population Commission (NPC) to purchase software for the National Census to be held in May 2023.
Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, announced that the 2023 population and housing census, which was originally scheduled for March 29, has been moved to May 2023.
He explained that the decision was necessitated by the rescheduling of the governorship elections from March 11 to March 18.
