President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed ecological fund intervention projects for the fourth quarter of 2016 in 11 states of the federation.
The beneficiaries include: erosion and flood control project for rice fields in Suru, Bagudu and Shanga Local Government Areas, all in Kebbi State; remediation of sludge at Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company (Phase II), in Kaduna State; flood and erosion control works in Abeokuta township, Ogun State; and channelisation and de-silting of Okoko and Ogbagba Rivers in Osogbo township in Osun State.
According to a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation signed by the Director Press, Bolaji Adebiyi, it stated: “The execution of these projects will address the challenges of gully and soil erosion, incessant flooding and air pollution that has ravaged the impacted communities and caused loss of lives in certain instances.
“When these projects are completed, the sufferings of the affected communities will be ameliorated. There will be increased food production, which will stimulate the economy and lead to the creation of jobs.”
Other beneficiaries include: Adiabo Okutikang beach gully erosion control works, Odukpani Local Government Area in Cross River; remediation of sludge pit and oil spillage at Warri Refinery (Phase II), in Delta State; Mubi flood erosion control works and River Yadzaram training (Phase I), in Adamawa State; and erosion and flood control works in Bogoro, Bogoro Local Government Area and in Gadon Toro/Market Road, Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State.
