The Federal Government has began the training of unemployed school leavers across the country under its Environmental Beautification Training Scheme, EBTS, as part of moves to combat the problem of unemployment in the country.
The acting Director General of National Directorate of Employment, NDE, Mr. Olakunle Obayan, spoke during the opening ceremony of the scheme in Asaba, Delta State.
Saying that the scheme will increase their chances of being self- employed and employers of labour, Obayan who was represented by the Delta State Coordinator of NDE, Mr. Geoffrey Ugbaja, explained that, “The EBTS conceptualised by the Special Public Works, SPW, Department is just one of the programmes of the Programmes Department in line with NDE’s mandate.
“Under the EBTS, a total of 25 persons in Delta State will undergo this training while 120 other participants are presently undergoing training in various skills in the Basic-National Open Apprenticeship Scheme, B-NOAS.
“The NDE will continue to evolve new schemes in its various departments to combat unemployment in the country despite the dwindling economic situation in the country,” he said.
