Lekki Gardens Limited, Nigeria’s leading private real estate development company has empowered the eleven survivors of the unfortunate March 8, 2016 building collapse with the presentation of tricycles and cash support.
The company presented the brand new tricycle worth over half a million Naira and fifty thousand Naira cash to each of the survivor during a low key event held at the company’s office in Horizon 1, Ikate-Eleguishi, Lekki on Monday July 4, 2016.
The names of the survivors presented with the empowerment support are; Elechi Chika, Tunde Busari, Waliu Rasak, Emeka Okorie, Wahab Olalude, Kayode Ezekiel, Chikodi James, Chukwudi James, Idowu Salawu, Hassan Isiaku and Tajudeen Ajani.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Lekki Gardens Limited, Mr. Richard Nyong used the opportunity to sincerely appreciate all the company’s stakeholders including the Lagos State Government and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) for their support and swift response during the unfortunate incidence.
Nyong stated that the presentation of the tricycles and cash support is to further show that Lekki Gardens Limited is a socially responsible corporate organization that is committed to empowering individuals and giving back to the society in which it operates.
According to Nyong, “Having ensured that the survivors of the incident received adequate medical care and are back on their feet, Lekki Gardens Limited decided to partner with a reputable Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) – Jakins NGO to identify ways through which the company can empower and contribute meaningfully to the lives of the survivors. We believe that if this investment is put to proper use, they can support themselves and their families.”
He further stated that the company also has plans for the families of the deceased as a way to compensate them for their losses but noted that this would be pending the investigation of the police and identification of the deceased.
Speaking on behalf of other survivors, Mr. Elechi Chika expressed sincere appreciation to the management of Lekki Gardens Limited for taking care of the survivors since the incident happened, throughout the time they were hospitalized till date.
“The company has been very supportive and caring in ensuring that we are all back on our feet in no time. They have also kept to their promise of empowering us through this generous donation which would further assist us to earn a living and support our families, we pray that God continually be with them and such incidence never occurs again,” Chika said.
